Recently I decided to move the web directory found at Hpkmedia.com. Therefore I needed a domain name to put the directory on. I bought DirectorySafe.com. This took a bit of time of making sure that all the links were redirecting properly. Anytime a site is moved you want to make sure the search engines know about it!

The move itself was pretty simply I just moved the files to the new directory via FTP. I used a 301 .htaccess redirect code to make sure that all pages would be directed from the old sub domain http://dir.hpkmedia.com to http://www.directorysafe.com.

This code not only redirects the main page but also all other pages associated with it.

After months of testing on a few of my sites I realized the power of CPM (cost per impression) affiliate programs. Most webmasters believe that PPC/CPC is the best way to make money online. I heavily disagree, for many reasons.

A lot of the new age websites such as community sites and video sites receive tons of page views yet most of the users of these types of sites rarely care about clicking on an AD. Another reason they don’t is because they are active members of the site and have become AD blind.

The solution to this common problem is to use CPM ads. When using CPM affiliate programs you get paid whether your users look at the AD’s or not. Affiliates are paid using a set pay scale usually ranging anywhere from $0.50 to $5.00 per thousand page views. Another great reason to use CPM is if you have a lot of return traffic. Ip addresses for page impressions are counted every 24 hour period. Meaning you if user A comes to your site today, and returns tomorrow, that user will be counted for 2 impressions.

After a lot of thought I decided to once again create an Asian Community. Ive done this in the past yet it wasn’t very successful due to my lack of attention towards it. This time I expect to have at least 3 months during the launch of the site. During this time I will be able to do full blown marketing campaigns and hopefully bring many active members to the site.

When starting any online community or forum the most important factor to keep it going is to make sure the members stick around. Also NEVER make promises to your members that you are unable to keep. This includes site features, contests, etc. This is because if you can’t keep your promises you will have many unhappy members, which will discourage new members to sign up and current members to leave.

After considering all aspects of starting this community, within the last year I decided to go through with it. Hopefully it is a success =).

Recently we added a new category to our blog where we will update it with graphics we have created for our clients. Yesterday we received a request for a logo design for a new upcoming site. Below is the logo we created for him.

To begin, I will keep this concept simple and short. A very effective way to market yourself or website is to simply do what I’m doing right now. Write an article and submit them to article directories, the process is a fast and easy, it also allows information to spread quickly. You can almost always include your link at the bottom of an article which in turn brings you website traffic and helps your page rank.

Where do you start? It’s simple really; all you need is find a topic for your articles. If you need website traffic, there is a reason for it! This is where it gets exciting. For example let’s pretend you have a site related to “Dog Care”. Now what you want to do is write an article on “Dog Care”. This could be any topics from “How to properly wash a dog” to “tips on walking a dog”.

While writing your article you want to imagine yourself reading it. Would you want to read this article? An article could be compared with many things; news, information, or even a school paper. Try not to think of many different topics, but also make sure you keep the article exciting or interesting to keep the viewers entertained.

Last always be sure to include a vital point at the end of you article. This helps in bringing that particular viewer back to reading more of your articles. It’s that simple you can do it starting NOW! Do some research and start writing!

I ran across a site the other day call PaidActions. Basically the site is a digital products club, with a membership you receive access to thousands of e-books, web scripts, templates and much more. It’s great for anyone that wants to get their feet wet in the resell market.

The products they have are useful even if you don’t decide to sell them. The membership fee is $25 a month which isn’t bad considering how many products they give you.

Also they have a 5 level affiliate program. Every time you refer someone you will receive a set amount of cash per month. For example if you refer your friend Bob you will receive $5 a month. Check out their site for more details.

The title of this post says it all except that fact that you may have to do a little work in order to make money on the internet. But as an active webmaster I thought of different ways that anyone could earn some extra cash.

As a webmaster it does not always make sense to EVERYTHING that has to be done with a website. For example my personal knowledge on web design is very poor, yet these days a person can get a designer for as little as $5-$10. By hiring someone it saves me countless hours of learning how to design, creating and editing, and more importantly my time.

This is why many people can make money off of webmasters just like me! If you go to webmaster marketplaces such as DigitalPoint and SitePoint there are thousands of designers waiting for jobs. Most these designers are desperate for money so they charge any where from $5-$25 for their design work.

If you were smart about it you could create your own web design business, without knowing a single thing! All you would have to do is get clients to your website or contact fellow webmasters that need a designer. At that point you would be able to name your price.

For example: The designer you hire to do the project for a client cost $10. You charge the client $30. You just made $20 without the headaches of creating the initial project.

If you think out of the box there are many industries where you could do the exact same thing applying these simple ideas and principles. Of course this not for everyone, the people that would succeed would need to be good with people. Also outstanding support skills would be a must. One would have to interact with potential clients in order to make the sale.

I actually just wrote this on the airplane… I am going on vacation for a week and got bored therefore I wrote this article to help others. I hope I didn’t blab too much =).

I noticed this month that 8 of my sites updated in PageRank. PageRank is important to many webmasters because it is Google’s way of ranking millions of sites on the internet. One reason webmasters pay close attention to website PageRank is because the higher it is the more money they make from selling links.

Recently, many webmasters are taking more precautions when selling links. This is because many believe Google is penalizing websites that sell links. But, this is all speculation as Google has not confirmed these acquisitions.

Overall I noticed many of my fellow webmaster sites have also updated. Hopefully most of the websites increased instead decreased in value =).

After a few months of thinking it over I decided to start offering web hosting for my clients. I created many different packages to meet many different needs. As far as the control panel I choose the one I personally use which is “DirectAdmin”. I choose DirectAdmin for its user friendly interface and features.
